I've found lots on the internet, but I want ones that are truly "tried and true". This is what we are doing for our church's "Ladies Christmas Craft Brunch" as the "craft". I'm nervous about it since I've never done it and want to make sure it goes smoothly for the 50 women we are going to be teaching! Thanks!!!

You really need to pack the stuff in so the layers look pretty. [HYPERLINK@www.gooseberrypatch.com] has a packer, and kit, while you may not be able to buy the packer tool for 50 women you might want to look at a picture of one and find a utensil you have that could work. Also I would do a focus group with 3 ladies say to see how it goes first. Make sure the recipe really fits the jar well. HTH.

Laura,

I'm hoping you get some TNT recipes, too! Last year, my girls and I tried out several and weren't that impressed with any of them! We ended up layering various types of bird seed in a jar and giving to those who enjoy feeding winter birds. I'm still on the lookout for a great recipe, though, so will be watching this thread!

One year my mom received one of these cookie mix jars, she asked if I would make the cookies, one thing that was very difficult was that the brown sugar had hardened and was difficult to get out of the jar, how can I make a cookie jar mix making sure the brown sugar does not harden? Thanks

Just microwaving the jar for a few seconds will soften the ingredients without heating up to much the other items (like chocolate chips). The key would be (IMO)making sure not to make the mixes too far ahead of the game so that it is a fresh gift when it is given.

Well, if you are looking for things to do instead of an actual recipe the bird seed idea is cool and a nice alternative. There is also the option of doing granola, raisens and stuff to make a snack food layered gift. I have never had any luck with any of the recipes in the jar I have received so now I just use them as decoration until they get icky and pitch them, I know it is such a waste. One year we got one that was supposed to make bean soup and it was just plain icky.

Well, the brunch was this last Saturday and went PERFECTLY! Last year we had so many ladies whining and complaining about the slightest problems they were having in completing the craft, so we were so leary this year. Thank the Lord that we had ONE lady complain and that was that she had a lot of these jars at home already. We got an overwhelming amount of compliments and everyone just loved their finished products.

I was nervous enough regarding all the measuring to actually premeasure and mix all the flour, baking soda, and salt for each person in little Ziploc bags! Then I put any other "bulk" ingredients (sugar, brown sugar, oats, chopped pecans) in gallon Ziplocs for each craft table (we had 8 ladies at each table). After they were done packing their jars, we had 2 decorating tables filled with jute, raffia, ribbon, fabric squares, miniature ornaments, and pre-punched tags for the jars for the remainder of the recipe.

Just letting you know, if anyone wants to do this kind of thing with a group, it does work! It takes a bit of work beforehand, but it turns out so wonderfully! Better than some little thing that they'll end up throwing away.

Now to start looking around for next years craft!!!!!!

Laura,

Sounds like it went beautifully!! What a gift to give these women a break from the typical day-to-day stuff and a chance to make a nice gift.

You've got my curiousity going...which recipe did you use?

Unforunately, we can't post links right now that I don't recognize. My software protection was not compatible with something that I use to ship with, so until a fix is come up with, I don't have one and therefore can't just go to any site! :-)
