In need of a Christmas cookie or candy recipe

By: BradyBunchMom   on  11/14/2003 2:02:53 PM

I am in need of a Christmas cookie or candy recipe. I need one that's not too hard and will be fun for all of us to make together.

Thanks~

Here are some of the "easy" ones that come to mind:

Cake mix cookies-

One box devil's food cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil
Red and Green M&M's

Mix first three ingredients until smooth; add M&M's. Drop by teaspoon on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for approx. 8 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Iced Pretzel Rods

Melt white candy coating (almond bark) in microwave until smooth (according to directions on package)

Dip Pretzel rod in candy about 3/4 way up pretzel. Sprinkle with red or green Christmas sugar. Dry on wax paper.

The Betty Crocker website has two WONDERFUL recipes we use every year. One is for rolled sugar cookies and the other one is for Snickerdoodles. I adjust each of these recipes. The Sugar cookie recipe I only use 1/2 of the almond extract it calls for and I roll them out in powdered sugar instead of flour. This really is the "secret" : ) For the snickerdoodle recipe, I double the butter/margarine, and omit the shortening. They turn out nice and soft and yummy.

Another thing we have done is put peanut butter between two ritz crackers and dip in chocolate almond bark (melted according to package) This didn't sound good before I ate one, but I was really surprised, and had lots of compliments on these.

Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies are a BIG favourite at our house!
Make up your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. Omit 1/3 cup of flour and replace with 1/3 cup cocoa. Replace regular choc. chips with mint flavoured ones. Roll dough into balls and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. flatten slighty. Put a few unwrapped candy cans in a freezer bag and gently crush, using a hammer. Sprinkle cookies with crushed candy cane before baking. These are SO yummy!!!!

Christmas pretzels--place(curly)pretzels on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Melt milk chocolate & white chocolate. Drizzle over pretzels and sprinkle generously with crushed candy canes and Christmas sprinkles. Cool in fridge. ENJOY!!!!

These are so fun, easy and GOOD! Take a round pretzel and put it on a greased cookie sheet. Put a kiss on top and bake it at 275 for 2-3 minutes. Remove from the oven and place a M&M on top and push down till it fills the ring. Refrigerate for 5-10 minutes. These were such a hit at my dh work place that they have requested them again. Another goody: Chocolate Peanut Sweeties 1 c peanut butter 1/2 c butter(no substitutes) 3 c confectioners sugar, 5 dozen round pretzels, 1 1/2 c milk chocolate chips, 1 tbs. oil.
Mix peanut butter and butter till smooth. Add sugar. Shape into 1 inch balls. Press one on each pretzel on wax paper. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Melt the chips and oil. Dip each ball into chocolate and return to wax paper.Don't dip the pretzel, just the peanut butter part. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Both of these are easy for kids to help with and I NEVER have any left to bring home.

Tandy,

I've seen those "round pretzel" recipes for a couple of years now, but can't find the round pretzels ANYWHERE around here! : ( Strange, huh?

You can find some more yummy ideas that were posted in this forum around this time last year. I happened across them the other day while looking through previous boards.

Any suggestions on where to find the round pretzels? I, too, am having trouble finding them and would love to try these recipes. Can you tell me what store you find them at? Anyone with a bag at home that can tell me the brand name - maybe I could even order online and not have to even leave the house!!!

For the pretzels with the kisses and m&m, me sister has uses regular small pretzel shapes and a waffle shape she found one year, both look and taste just as good. She also used white chocolate candy coating discs and holiday-red & green m&m for a really festive look.
