Ladies,
I'm trying to put together a budget for our upcoming HS convention...I am going to have access to a big, canister-type coffee/tea server, and need some ideas on HOW MANY teabags I should use and how much sugar. I know that there are DOZENS of different strengths and sweetnesses, but I'd love a "starting line" to figure costs and to begin to make the tea, when the time comes. We're talking about 150-200 people for starters, but one tea-server at a time. I don't know the exact gallons/liter size, as I have yet to make it to the building that we will be using for the convention, but has anyone accomplished this? I plan to have the largest part as sweet tea, with a smaller (gallon-size) pitcher for unsweet, to be refilled as necessary.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,

I make a gallon of iced tea using 8 tea bags. I put them all into a 2 cup measuring cup and putting in the microwave on high for 5 minutes. Makes a nice tea concentrate. Add to gallon pitcher, 1 cup sugar and a tad of lemon juice. Fill with water. Annette |

What my measurements are for sweet tea is 3 big (family size) Luzianne tea bags and 1 cup of sugar to 1 gallon of water. HTH

My box of decaf tea reads as follows:
one large family tea bag per quart of water
There are 4 eight ounce glasses of tea in each quart (32 ozs)
There are 4 quarts in each gallon. So there should be 16 eight ounce glasses in each gallon.
2/3 to 1 cup sugar for each gallon.
I personally use 3 large family tea bags and 2/3 sugar per each gallon.

I brew sweet iced tea at home using the coffee pot (12 cup). I use the Lipton Iced tea brew family size bags- 5 of them to a full pot of water. After it has brewed for several hours (2 minimum), I squeeze out and discard the tea bags, and stir in 1 1/2 c. sugar while it is still warm so the sugar dissolves easily. Then I pour the whole pot into a 2-gallon pitcher and add water until it is full. Everyone loves my tea! It's quite sweet and has a beautiful color to it. Often I brew the "concentrate" in the coffee pot, the put it in another container to freeze it until I need it. If you have the freezer space, you might consider making it ahead like that so all you have to do is pour in the concentrate and add water.

should have mentioned that you will probably only use 4-6 ozs of tea and the rest is ice.

I use 8 regular tea bags of Luzianne or 4 of the big ones to 1 cup sugar and one gallon water. Fill a regular size pot with cold water, add tea bags and turn on high until it just comes to a boil. Remove from heat and add to sugar. Stir until dissolved and add cold water until you have 1 gallon. |
