Potato salad

Search on the recipe site for potato/potatoes or my username and you should find where someone answered my post for potato recipes. There's one with potatoes and half/half with lemon pepper that is very, very good. Potato soup in a crock pot would be very warm, tasty and filling in this cold weather.

Dessert:

Simple as it sounds, my chocolate chip cookies are always eaten when I send them with hubby to work functions.

Bananna pudding
Fruit cobbler (easy and cheap!)

Blessings,
Carol

We like to make Sausage-Potatoes Skillet (maybe got the recipe/idea from someone on this board...?). I fry up some sausage in the casings, then slice it into slices. Then throw it in a skillet with olive oil and some cut up potatoes. Fry until the potatoes are done, stirring occasionally. My kids and dh love it. I serve it hot, but even when it's cooled down, they still keep eating it. You can vary the taste by the type of sausage you use.

Cheesy Potatoes (served hot)

5 cups cubed boiled potatoes (don't bother peeling)
2 T butter
2 T flour
1 1/4 cup milk
1 tsp. chicken bouillon
3 T chopped onion (optional)
1/2 cup shredded cheese
2 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste

Make sure your potatoes are already cooked. Melt butter in pot on stove. Stir in flour. Add rest of ingredients. Heat until bubbly, stirring well. Put potatoes into a 2 qt casserole dish or 9 x 13 pan. Pour sauce over potatoes. Bake at 375 for 35-45 minutes.

parsley potatoes...basically, boil potatoes, in or out of skins, until fork tender. then, melt butter into the tatoes, and sprinkle with parsley...salt and pepper to taste.

mashed potatoes are always a hit!

and for desert, cookies or brownies.

How about mashed potatoes and for dessert an easy cobbler. Neither would be expensive. I'll be glad to share the cobbler recipe I have if you like. Annette

I think simple potatoes like mashed potatoes, or boiled potatoes (season w/ salt, pepper and butter) is the ideal thing to do for a men's dinner. It seems to me that (on the average) men like simple dishes-nothing too fancy. I second the cobbler recipe. The most expensive thing there is going to be can of fruit (I almost always do peach unless it is dewberry season!) If you lived closer I'd bring you over some free dewberries!! Yummmm!!!

BTW.......how is the grocery budget going.....I've been praying for you!

Georgia,
What are dewberries? I've made cobbler with pineapple and coconut, blueberries, peaches, apricots, strawberries, apples and would love to know what dewberries are. Annette

My DH likes, and likes to make, seasoned potatoes. He just dices the potatoes, and puts them in a baggy with melted butter and seasonings - we chose from the spices we already have on hand - Shake them in the seasoning, and place them on a cookie sheet. We set our oven at 375, and bake them till tender.

Blessings.

ASM,
Ahhhhh......dewberries......yummm. They are like blackberries (do you know of these?) except they are smaller, sweeter (inmo), and are less 'seedy'-by this I mean...the blackberries have seeds in them that you can feel in your mouth when you eat them, the dewberries don't have this...I guess a better explanation might would be that they are more 'tender'? They are also not as dark, they are a purple color, just not as deep as the blackberry.

These dewberries grow (wild) all over the place (May-June?) around here. It is not uncommon to see people drive out to the country with bucket in hand, stand in a ditch to pick dewberries. We have a few of the vines on our property, but not enough. We go out to my parent's place to pick. There we can get all we want and then some. We freeze them and then have them for during the year.

My favorite way to eat them is to smash them, sprinkle with sugar and pour cream over them. This is heaven...it is soooo good. I am not a big sweet eater, but this rare treat can make me 'come a runnin'!!;o)

I hope this answers your question!

JJ,
If your sweet family comes to see me *anytime* of the year I will make you a dewberry cobbler. (If I don't have some dewberries in my freezer, I know someone will!:o). But, if you come in May-Junnnnnnnneeeeeeee.....we could go 'dewberry pickin' together:o)!!!

Sorry it didn't work out to meet y'all in Austin:-( All in God's timing though, I'm sure our families will meet again soon!

Georgia (who absolutely loves your sweet family;o)
