I made these Toffee Bars tonight; they were too sugary! I need to refine my recipe.

**Cook for 2 minutes:
1/2 c butter
1/2 c sugar
**Pour this mixture over:
enough Saltines to fill bottom of 7 x 11 pan
**Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
**Sprinkle on:
3/4 cup chocolate chips; allow to melt and spread.
**Sprinkle on chopped nuts.

There are a ton of variations on this recipe on the Internet! Does anyone have a tried and true recommendation for me?? Thanks!

**Disclaimer: To my Exercise Ladies: DO NOT MAKE THESE!! :oO

1 stick butter
1 stick margarine.
/34 cup brown sugar
boil 3 min.

12 oz. choc. chips
1 .5 cups chopped nuts optional

I start by lining a 11 x 16 inch pan with crackers. How thick do you want the toffee?
You could line another half sheet if you like the toffe thinner.
Pour butter, margarine and sugar mixture over crackers. Cover with chips and spread over top then add nuts. Bake 5 min. in 400 oven. cool and brake apart.

My recipe calls for 1 cup butter and 1 cup sugar. boil for 3 mintues and then quickly pour over saltines or graham crackers or even matzoh. I use a jelly roll pan which is large.
Bake for 5 min @400. Then take out of the oven and add 12 oz. of c.chips.

It's our favorite!

My MIL's recipe calls for 1/2c sugar and 1c butter, but its the only one I've seen that uses that ratio, all the rest are equal amounts of sugar and butter.

BTW, these are great done with brown sugar poured over graham crackers! No chocolate necessary.
