Sarah,
This is a recipe I had listed under a thread for things to do with a roast (I think:o). Anyway, I would think it could be done with brisket as well. It is not as 'BBQy' as you are looking for, but might work. Here it is copy/pasted...
Here's my recipe for Shredded Beef Sandwiches!!!
3lb. roast (I use chuck roast, but I think any would work just fine)
1/2 stalk celery, diced fine
1 1/2 onion chopped fine
1 bell peper chopped fine
8 oz ketchup (1 cup:o)
3/4 cup water
1 1/2 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Dump all of the above into a crock pot. Cook about 8 hours on low. Shred. Return to crock pot and cook one more hour on low. Serve on hamburger buns. Yummy!
I put diced/chopped fine on all of the above b/c 1. my dh does not like all of that stuff unless I do dice it fine*Ü* and 2. I have a Pampered Chef food chopper that makes that *very* easy. But, you could just chop or dice (normal size) and it would be fine. |

Julie-
Yes, brisket is a particular cut of beef, I think from the rib cage... I just got it on sale this past week for $1.79/lb. -- this was trimmed (there is a layer of fat on one side) They also had brisket on sale in vacuum sealed packages, untrimmed, for $.99/lb.

BTW -- here is how I usually fix beef brisket in the crockpot:
Brisket
prepared (yellow) mustard
dry onion soup mix
I always sear or brown my meat first, then place the brisket fat side up in the crockpot. Cover the brisket with prepared or yellow mustard, sprinkle with dry onion soup mix. Cover and cook on low overnight or for ~ 8 hours (depending on size and the crockpot). You can skim the mustard & onion soup off & mix it with the dripping for aux jus or thinken it with flour for gravy. The brisket can be sliced or shredded after cooled enough to handle & the fat removed.
It's good & easy!
