I was given alot of tuna and 2 jars of salad dressing (like Miracle Whip) I do not like it on sandwiches or anything and was wondering if any of you had recipes that you liked that used it in baking (salad dressing cake etc) The tuna is good, it is just you can only eat so many tuna sandwiches and casseroles!

Hi! We like to prepare the tuna salad on toasted English muffin halves and top with a slice of cheese (any kind). Put under broiler till melts. These melts are delicious! There IS a mayonnaise cake recipe -- I wonder how that would work with the salad dressing. |

You know, I asked a question about tuna a few months ago--if you search for "tricks with tuna" it should come up. I got a lot of ideas!

You can use the salad dressing to "baste" or "frost" chicken or pork then roll it in crushed crackers or bread crumbs or crumbled chips. Bake at 350 for an hour.
I've also mixed it with dry Italian Dressing mix and brushed it on mild fish before broiling.
The Kraft Foods website [HYPERLINK@www.kraftfoods.com] has a lot of recipes that use it, too! |

A macaroni salad would work with both tuna and mayonnaise. I love it!

I have a recipe that uses both ingredients :-) It's for a savoury tuna pie, (you might call it a casserole in the US? - although I always think of a casserole as "sloppy" to put on top of rice etc) that we really enjoy. It's a bit like a crustless quiche, that is filled with rice instead of the crust. Anyway, here goes!
Beat: 4 Eggs
Add: 200mls milk
80 mls (1/3 cup) mayonaise/salad dressing
1 onion (chopped, and I pre-cook it a little in the microwave but you don't have to)
375g (2 cups) cooked rice
pinch salt
pinch cayene pepper
185g tin tuna
Mix together and pour into a quiche dish, then cover with 1 cup of grated chedder cheese. Bake at 375*F (190*C) for approx an hour. (although it has been different with each oven we have had..I just lightly pat the top to see if it has "set"..it gets lightly brown as well)
I will quite often make this when I have leftover cooked rice in the fridge, because the hardest part in making it is boiling the rice! We eat it for dinner with either a salad or green vegetables - or peas, although it is also a nice lunch dish as you can just cut smaller servings. It can get a bit bland if you don't salt your rice when cooking it, so I do add a bit of extra salt & cheese. It reheats well in the microwave or oven, and is handy if you want to take a meal to someone. I'm not that fussed with tuna, but I do like this recipe. I've also made it with canned salmon, and fresh tuna & salmon on special occasions.
Enjoy,
Natalie
